Day 1 Arrive at Zhangjiajie & Full-Day Tianmen Mountain Tour | Private Pick-up, Check-in Hotel in Wulingyuan

🏨 Hotel: Wulingyuan Scenic Area Hotel

A heartfelt welcome to Zhangjiajie, the legendary hometown of Avatar’s floating peaks! Our experienced local guide and private driver will wait for you at the exit of Hehua Airport or high-speed railway station upon your arrival. We will head straight to Tianmenshan National Forest Park, honored as “The Soul of Zhangjiajie”, for a full day of mountain sightseeing before transferring to Wulingyuan for accommodation.
Notice
The upper segment (Middle Station to Summit) of Tianmen Mountain Cableway may be temporarily closed for maintenance; we will arrange an optimized alternative sightseeing route for all guests.
Adjusted Sightseeing Route
Cableway Lower Station → Cableway Middle Station → Eco-shuttle Bus along 99-Bend Cliff Road → Tianmen Cave → Cliff Glass Skywalk & Hanging Plank Path → Tianmen Cave Lower Plaza → Express Gondola Back to Scenic Exit
One-way cable car riding time: 10–12 minutes
Altitude & Cave Specs: Summit altitude approx. 1,300 m; Tianmen Cave stands 131.5 meters tall and 50 meters wide
Physical Difficulty: ☆ Easy. Cable cars and mountain escalators cover most climbing sections. Difficulty rises to ☆☆☆ Moderate if you choose to climb the 999 stone steps beneath Tianmen Cave.
This iconic mountain sits merely 8 km from downtown Zhangjiajie, suitable for travelers of all age groups with minimal uphill trekking required. Board the 4,613-meter long cable car at the lower station, and enjoy a 12-minute ascent dotted with miniature bonsai-like peak forest landscapes stretching far below.
After arriving at the middle station, switch to an eco-friendly sightseeing bus winding along the world-famous 99-Bend Road clinging to sheer cliff faces, featuring countless sharp hairpin curves and stunning valley views.
Ride mountain escalators upward to Tianmen Cave, the world’s tallest natural mountain arch often shrouded in drifting mist, creating ever-changing dreamlike light and shadow ideal for photography. Adventurous guests may climb the 999 stone steps for an extra challenge.
After visiting the giant cave, test your courage on the 60-meter Glass Skywalk suspended 1,430 meters above the deep valley, then follow the 1.6km Cliff-Hanging Plank Road for unobstructed panoramic mountain ridge views. You may optionally visit tranquil Tianmen Temple wrapped in lush forests, or hike to Yunmenxianding (1,518m), Tianmen Mountain’s highest peak for a full bird’s-eye overlook of the entire mountain range.
Once Tianmen Mountain sightseeing finishes, we take a private 1-hour transfer to Wulingyuan Scenic Area for hotel check-in. The rest of the evening is yours to relax freely. You can wander Xibu Old Street to experience authentic Tujia brocade craft, taste classic Hunan local snacks, and browse handmade ethnic ornaments and traditional costumes. As lanterns light up the pedestrian street after dark, the whole block brims with lively folk culture vibes.

Itinerary Route

Trip Data
Total Elevation Gain: +326 m
Altitude Range: 1,074 m – 1,262.5 m
Physical Level: ☆☆ Easy. Cable cars, Bailong Elevator and eco-shuttle buses replace most steep climbs; perfectly friendly for seniors and children
Total Walking Distance: Approximately 6–9 km
Full Tour Duration (including rest breaks & lunch): 7–9 hours
As a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and Global Geopark, Wulingyuan boasts globally unique quartz sandstone peak forest landforms, divided into four core scenic zones. Today’s route covers two unmissable highlights: Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve and Yuanjiajie (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park).
Morning Session: Tianzi Mountain (Up by One-way Cable Car)
We first take eco-shuttle buses to the cableway station and ride uphill to Tianzi Mountain, titled “King of All Peaks”. Named after the legendary Tujia tribal leader Xiang Dakun, this mountain served as a classic shooting location for the hit TV series Journey to the West.
Walk to Dianjiangtai Viewing Platform to overlook mist-covered West Sea Peak Forest, and admire the iconic Imperial Writing Brush Peaks — six slender stone pillars shaped like ancient Chinese writing brushes. Later we visit He Long Park featuring Marshal He Long’s bronze statue, then climb Tianzi Pavilion to enjoy a boundless panoramic view of thousands of towering stone peaks rolling into the distance.
Travel Reminder: The winding mountain shuttle road between Tianzi Mountain and Yuanjiajie has numerous sharp bends. Guests prone to motion sickness are suggested to wear motion sickness patches in advance.
Afternoon Session: Yuanjiajie & Bailong Elevator (One-way Downhill)
Take the scenic eco-shuttle to Yuanjiajie, the natural prototype of Avatar’s floating Hallelujah Mountains. Wander along the 3,500-meter cliffside plank road decorated with red blessing ribbons, stopping at landmark spots including Lost Soul Platform, Backyard Garden and South Sky Pillar (officially named Avatar Mountain). Countless vertical stone pillars stretch endlessly, forming an unparalleled geological wonder shaped by millions of years of crustal movement and natural erosion.
Route Tip: Keep an eye on ancient fossil relics scattered along the mountain trail. If you fear heights, pass the hollow iron mesh bridge quickly without lingering.
Before returning downhill, we ride the Guinness World Record-certified Bailong Elevator, the world’s tallest outdoor sightseeing lift, descending 326 vertical meters in merely 66 seconds back to the valley floor.
Route Tip: Stand on the far right side of the elevator cabin for unobstructed panoramic shots; wait for the next carriage if this prime viewing spot is occupied.
Important Note
During peak tourist seasons, your local guide may reverse the visiting sequence of Tianzi Mountain and Yuanjiajie to avoid massive tourist crowds and shorten waiting time.

Day 3

Day 3 Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge & Jinbianxi Stream Hike

🍳 Breakfast:
🍽️ Lunch:
🏨 Hotel: Downtown Zhangjiajie Hotel

Itinerary Route
Wulingyuan Hotel → 1.5-hour private transfer to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon & Glass Bridge → Jinbianxi Stream Scenic Zone → 1-hour drive back to downtown Zhangjiajie
Trip Profile
Elevation Change: Approx. 300 meters downhill. The glass bridge sits at around 700m above sea level, while the canyon bottom stands at roughly 400m.
Physical Difficulty: ☆☆☆ Moderate. The canyon trail is mostly flat with scattered short staircases. The glass bridge brings thrilling visual experience, not suitable for guests with severe acrophobia.
Total Walking Distance: About 4–6 kilometers
Full Tour Length (including breaks & lunch): Around 6 hours
In the morning, we drive to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, home to the world’s longest and highest glass-bottom bridge. This 375-meter architectural wonder suspends 300 meters above the valley floor, allowing you to gaze straight down at lush forest and misty ravines through transparent glass panels. Walking across the bridge creates a surreal sensation of floating mid-air. The world’s highest bungee jumping platform is available as a self-paid optional activity for adrenaline seekers.
Two sightseeing routes are available after crossing the glass bridge:

  1. Thrill-Seeker Full Route

VR Flight Experience → Canyon Zip Line (358m long, 302m high) → One-Line Sky Slide → Rainbow Lake Boat Trip → Easy Canyon Walk → Shenquan Lake Cruise

You can select all items or only your favorite entertainment projects.

  2. Leisure Standard Route

VR Experience → Downhill Elevator → Rainbow Lake Cruise

This route skips all high-altitude thrilling activities; visitors can take the downhill elevator comfortably to the canyon bottom.

After exploring the grand canyon, we transfer to Jinbianxi Stream, also known as “The Most Beautiful Valley Under Heaven”. Stretching 5,710 meters long, this crystal-clear mountain stream is one of Wulingyuan’s core water landscapes and a famous filming venue for Journey to the West.
Trekking along the valley trail, you will see clear flowing water, wild macaques wandering among branches, lush primitive vegetation and layered stone peaks mirrored on the water surface. It feels like wandering inside a living Chinese ink landscape painting.
Important Reminder: Keep a safe distance from wild monkeys; do not carry exposed food or plastic bags to avoid scratches or property loss. In summer, watch your step beside the stream as rocks are covered with slippery moss.

After finishing Jinbianxi sightseeing, we take a one-hour private drive back to downtown Zhangjiajie and check into the city hotel for overnight stay.
